Specialist Surgery
The Channel Highway Animal Hospital has attracted an experienced surgical specialist to join the veterinary and nursing teams. Dr Gail Anderson is Tasmania’s only veterinary surgical specialist. She gained her undergraduate vet degree from the University of Melbourne, did a surgical internship and residency in Canada and gained her specialist Diplomat status from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS) by examination. Gail has practiced both in clinical academic and private practice hospitals in North America, the UK and Australia teaching surgery in vet schools as well as working as a clinical specialist. She gained her MSc in comparative orthopaedics investigating the healing around uncemented and cemented total hip replacements in dogs and earned a PhD in bone cell biology investigating the mechanisms of bone implant loosening. In addition to extensive orthopaedic experience, Gail has a professional interest in complex soft tissue cases – especially tumour resections/reconstructions, head and neck surgery and thoracic surgeries.
Having a surgical specialist at the practice means a great deal for not only for the Hobart communities but also pet owners right across Tasmania.
